Criminals facing trial applaud VANOC’s commandeer of the RCMP for 10 weeks during 2010

If you don’t follow David Berner’s  blog now, I suggest that you do. He writes and comments and talks about various important issues facing those of us in Lotusland, and often touches on items that would otherwise escape the scrutiny of the public.
Imagine my surprise when scrolling through his feed this morning, to see that [...]

Bullets fly in residential cul-de-sac, home to many families with children.

Sometimes I think I know what it must have been like in Vietnam…. the steady chopchopchop sound of the rotors overhead, the shouts, the wails of sirens and stench of fresh blood and acrid fear filling the air…
Only I live in Surrey, and the chopper overhead isn’t a med-evac unit, it’s RCMP Air 1.  The shouts aren’t a soldiers [...]

BREAKING NEWS 9:40 pm March 3rd: RCMP investigate reports of shots fired in Newton – again.

The second period  of the Canucks game had just started  at about 8pm, as the sound of shots rang loud and clear as if outside my door. I froze in disbelief and shivered as I listened in shock.
4 shots in quick succession, followed by perhaps another 4, slower and more deliberate .
Making sure someone was [...]

Gee, I feel so safe – another shootout last night, very nearby

Another shootout last night, this one far too close for comfort.
Can anyone give me an assurance that my children will not be killed by a stray bullet through the wall of my house?

Stabbing in Newton sends one to hospital- right in front of me.

One young man is in hospital with what are described as non- life threatening injuries, and police are searching for  a single male suspect who fled the scene on foot.
This, after I found myself smack dab in the middle of a police incident at the Newton Wave pool and Recreational Centre this evening.
As I made my way through the crowd, two officers halted one male youth in front of [...]

Bits and Bites- Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Oh. My. God.
Ever had one of those mornings where nothing goes right?
It started when I walked into the kitchen this morning, only to remember I was out of coffee. Grrrrr. But, I sucked it up and soldiered on, heading to the bathroom to, well, you know – only to find that my daughter was showering [...]

A reminder to stop by and sign this petition I first talked about last year – this proactive group of citizens is taking matters into their own hands to push for harsher sentences and revised bail terms.   http://www.toughersentences.com/Home_Page.html

The X factor.

” Bye Mom- love you! “ , she said as she walked out the door to go to school.
I stood by the window holding my 7 month old son, and we both watched her walk away down the street. I’ve never been religious – never even gone to church for that matter - yet found myself thinking: ” Please [...]

You know you are in trouble when…

An RCMP cruiser pulls up and parks in front of your house, and an officer knocks on your door…
It never fails.
Whenever I have one of those days where the shower never happened, the hairs in a ratty ponytail and dark circles clearly show under my eyes, someone shows up unexpectedly at the door.  And after [...]

Bits and Bites – Wednesday February 4th, 2009

The Vancouver Sun is reporting that the man who was killed in the most recent Surrey targeted hit was 21 year old Ralph Baldini – the same person who rented the north Surrey Penthouse where 6 people were brutally murdered in October 2007. http://www.vancouversun.com/news/Three+slayings+hours+Metro+Vancouver/1249778/story.html
Shot while sitting in his vehicle outside of the London Drugs store [...]
