Have to comment about the latest in the Newton Beautification efforts- the large planters along 72nd ave by the Newton bus loop. I wish I had taken my camera this morning.
Gorgeous plants, nice containers.
I saw a bum pissing in one of them, and a needle in another. Already, they are filling with cigarette butts and debris.
No RCMP in site, no patrols by Translink at the loop. There was a marked increase of foot patrols in the days following the CBC story, however, there has yet to be any permanent change in the area. Ask any of the merchants, who are still feeling the pinch of having to pay for their safety.
A note to whomever it is at Surrey city hall who reads my site several times a day, planters will not curb theft, stop the on-foot drug dealing going on in plain site, or prevent addicts from harassing people in the area. They do not in any way stop the dial a dope dealers or the hookers from settling into the residential areas around the Newton core.
Perennials in nice pots? Nice try.

You do not have to believe that the drug war is eroding our rights, even though I will win in court on that fact, but could you possibility give me an explaination as to why the government has ordered a half a million coffins?
