Bits and Bites -Wednesday May 7th

I love Wednesdays… half-way through the week, Friday on the way and you know if you’ve made it this far, the rest will be a breeze…

A few items for you today, and I’m pretty sure that you’ll have an opinion on them all.

Immigration and deportation in Canada is flawed -at best- and the news today that our wonderful people with Canada Border Services Agency have lost track of 41,000 deportee’s is shocking. The agencies tracking system is woefully inadequate and moreover, agents aren’t even investigating the majority of cases- which means thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants and refugee claimants are still enjoying Canadian freedom.  http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/news/story.html?id=ced83570-9486-454e-b2e3-199d71e758dc&k=48651

Give me a break! What’s going on here ? 41,000 is a staggering amount of “missing” deportee’s and some heads must roll over this figure. How about  this – when the Immigration Review Board rules you must leave Canada, you LEAVE CANADA !! Put them in custody until the first available flight out, and then escort them right on board. This is another case of ‘pass the buck’, with each agency blaming another for the entire debacle. Any wonder we have all these foreign gangsters, leeches and criminals coming to Canada, when they know the likelihood of being actually forced to go home is slim to nothing?

The young boy who was mauled by a pit bull in Surrey recently, spoke with reporters in hospital, and says he doesn’t blame the dogs, he blames the owners.  Smart boy. This has happened several times in Surrey, as the city has an extremely high pit bull population among homeowners.

But the question is, if we can’t trust owners to be responsible with their methods of personal and home security- that’s the only reason most people in Surrey have pit bulls- what is the province to do BUT ban the breed, among others prone to attack ?  I understand the sentiment that we shouldn’t blame the breed, but lets be brutally honest. Pit bulls, among other certain breeds, are historically aggressive breeds. Couple that with an ignorant and stupid owner, and you have a ticking bomb waiting to go off.  I could take you for walk around my residential neighbourhood and show you at least 15 houses with chain link fences, barren dog runs, and a pit bull with a studded or chained collar foaming at the mouth when anyone walks by. Some of the comments I’ve heard are that the owners are all white trash because they are from Surrey, but let me educate you a little, because they aren’t. Most are upper middle class homes with older children in dubious professions, if you get my drift. Picture bling bling Indo young men in expensive hoodies, pimped out Expeditions or Hummers, and gang associated money. People who feel the need to have a snarling beast outside the door for protection, not for a pet. These aren’t poor white trash- although there are some who do the same thing – they’re rich criminal trash. Ban the breed, or charge the owners. Make anyone who chooses to have this breed pay a hefty registration fee and carry special insurance. Make them report to the SPCA every few months to verify the demeanor of the dog, but for God’s sake, do something before someone actually gets killed. And let me warn you- I used to carry pepper spray on my runs, but perhaps now  I’ll resort to a beat stick under the stroller.

Who lives, and who dies, if a serious pandemic hits Canada in the future?

Throughout history, natures way of balancing the world population appears to have been massive outbreaks of disease that kill millions of people worldwide- plague, measles, small pox, and the flu are just some of the possibilities. With more and more common bacteria evolving into super-bugs, and new viruses becoming killers, it is not merely a chance it will happen in the future, it is a certainty.

That is why doctors have been forced to sit and debate who will live and who will die, if and when a pandemic hits our country. Some of those who would not receive any treatment include anyone over 85,anyone with severe traumas, badly burned patients over 60, and those with severe mental impairment.

Although some will say this is inhumane and cruel, in fact it is a reality that must be faced. It would be impossible to treat everyone, and efforts must be concentrated on those with the highest chance of survival. I do not envy these doctors who are forced into making decisions that some may classify as playing God, and yet  I must commend them for making the move before the disaster hits. How do you feel about this issue?

I always like you to leave you smilingon my Wednesday posts, so here’s a little something something for you… Ever been stumped trying to figure out the lyrics to a song?  Some of the rap/hip-hop artists out now don’t make it any easier with all the slang incorporated,  so check out this this video interpretation of a Sean Paul song…. ohhhhh soooo funny!!!!

  1. You have hit on one of my pet theories. Natures way of controlling the population. You have to include our proclivity to self destruct, ie: wars in the way that nature controls the population. Consider the numbers that died from wars alone in the 20th century and extrapolate the population as it would be now. Gives one pause.

  2. True enough. Look how many American soldiers have died overseas while Bush has been in power…

I think we are reaching a critical point in the world population, and frankly I’m surprised a massive, and I mean massive, world pandemic hasnt hit yet.

Perhaps one might look at the current food crisis as yet another population control event.More people than ever are starving, in areas that were at least previously marginally sustaining themselves. The rich are getting richer and the rest, well, we can all watch them on the evening news.
