What if no one were fat?

 Ahhhh….FRIDAY!

It’s one thing to listen to Phil Till talk about sex on his CKNW morning show, but it’s quite another to watch him…..what naughty expressions !! I caught a little of the verbal intercourse between Mark Madryga and Phil this morning, ( dirty, dirty boys !! ) talking about whether or not Mark calls a certain someone Her Worship in private. ahhh… too funny, but I DO like the ring of that….. her worship… ; )

It’s great that the relationship with my teenagers is such that they still like hanging out with me, and actually will choose to do so freely! Both received excellent GPA’s on this last report card, so to celebrate, the three of us are taking advantage of having some time alone before their newest sibling arrives to mess it all up again… I say that with a chuckle, because few parents realise how much even older teens still need time alone with their parents, despite what they might say to the contrary. Every kid thrives on being the centre of attention, even for a brief time, and I try hard to make sure times like this are memories. I’m not religious, but I do feel blessed by the gift of my children.

Reading through the MSN finance section this morning led me to an interesting article that suddenly seems so relevant considering the worlds current food woes. People are hurting, and yet here in Canada, we have so much. This writer touched on an issue that would have huge financial ramifications for both food and finance matters worldwide.

What if no one were fat?

Really, think about it, what if there were no fat people? How would that impact all of our lives? This author has added it all up, and the results are quite amazing. This is no longer an aesthetic matter of merely looking good, this is about using less food, less fuel, and the differences that only a thin population would make on many different industries.  It’s worth looking at, and although I’m sure the overweight and obese everywhere will be up in arms over it, the time has come to face reality. http://finance.sympatico.msn.ca/savingsdebt/insight/article.aspx?cp-documentid=6972004

The sad story of Sunny Park and her family, who were all violently murdered by her estranged husband, played out on the news last night. Her video testimony is chilling ,and so accurate when it comes to the actions she knew he would take against her.

He would kill her. He would kill their kids, and he would kill her family. She knew this without fail, without hesitation, because he had threatened it often – and yet, authorities released her husband after his first attempt on her life, and he made good on all the threats.  http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/05/01/bc-oak-bay-video-released.html

Statistics show that men who threaten this kind of violence usually make good on it. Many, many women have been killed by their estranged spouses, and its commonly known by all in the field that the most dangerous time for a woman is in the period after she actually leaves the relationship. My heart goes out to Sunny, and all women like her. It’s hard to explain how one feels when you are systematically verbally and physically abused and demeaned. You don’t believe in your self. You don’t think you are worth it.  I know first hand, it is often  a catch -22 situation. You might die if you stay, but you might still be killed if you go. No  current court document can prevent it, and that’s why changes are currently being addressed and implemented.  One commenter on this CBC article proposed electronic bracelet monitoring for these men after they have been released – an idea worth looking into. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2008/05/01/bc-oak-bay-video-released.html

Last, but not least, The Canadian Medical Association has published an editorial calling for more independent research and review regarding the safety of tasers. Apparently, the research used by the company making them is completely biased. Gee, you think?

Have a good one, I’ll be back later this evening.
